The Hear! Here! Society, is hosting a Jazz evening with the Morningside Jazz Trio at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Western Branch. This event will take place on Friday, August 30, with a gala reception at 7 p.m. The concert will follow at 8 p.m. Advance tickets, $20, are available by calling 742-8765.

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Yarmouth Branch
Several new exhibitions that showcase everything from painting and printmaking to sculpture and folk art, are all part of a new season of exhibitions now open at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s Western Branch in Yarmouth.
As part of this new exhibition rotation Arts Nova Scotia, the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage and the AGNS Western Branch are honoured to unveil the work of 16 exceptional Nova Scotia artists whose art was added to the Nova Scotia Art Bank collection in 2013. These works are on view in the main gallery.
Also featured at the AGNS Western Branch in Yarmouth is:
Blue curated by Sarah Fillmore features a selection of paintings that draw on the emotive qualities of the colour blue. Artists include: Wayne Boucher, Elizabeth Enders, Tom Hammick, John Hartman and Françoise Sullivan.
Portraits of Places: Watercolours by Frederick B. Nichols curated by Laurie Hamilton and Dale Sheppard highlights the recently discovered 19th century historical watercolours that depict such Nova Scotia landmarks as George’s Island, Bedford Basin, Ferguson’s Cove, and other picturesque views of the province.
Remembering Kenojuak Ashevak curated by Dale Sheppard celebrates the work of the late and much loved Inuit artist best known for her bold sense of design, draughtsmanship and her iconic birds.
Birding: F
olk Art in Flight curated by Dale Sheppard reflects the birding culture of south-west Nova Scotia with birds of all shapes, sizes and colours drawn from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia folk art collection! Included are paintings and sculptures by well-known Nova Scotia artists such as Maud Lewis, Ralph Boutilier, Joe Norris, and Sidney Howard. Arts: Western Branch curated by Dale Sheppard and Kris Webster.
Autism Arts: The culmination of a very successful first year of the Autism Arts program in Yarmouth is now an exhibition of work!

Public and private gardens of Yarmouth and area have been celebrated this summer with an exhibit arranged in cooperation with Communities in Bloom. The Yarmouth Art Society, the Write Away writers group and the Yarmouth Photography Club are happy that the show has been extended until the end of September. Nineteen gardens have been interpreted through art, photography and the written word. Come visit!

Autism Arts is a new program being offered at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s Yarmouth branch. It is for young people diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The 8-week sessions are modeled after a program developed at the AGNS through funding from the Craig Foundation, which have been offered in Halifax since 2006.

Creative Minds on January 27th with Cecil Day, David Cain, and Virginia Stoddard proved to be a fascinating presentation with a lively discussion. Thanks again to Cecil, David and Virginia for bringing your art work (and what’s involved!) to our attention. Here are a few photos from the afternoon.
CREATIVE MINDS
February, 24th, 2-4 p.m.
An award-winning writer, producer, host and director in radio, television, film and news media, Tim Wilson makes documentaries for broadcast, web and theatrical release, as well as private commissions. He has interviewed, collaborated with or produced profiles of many notable figures on the world stage including John and Yoko Lennon, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Albert Speer.
He has also tackled a variety of subjects and settings, from Digby Neck to Fogo Island. A former host on National Public Radio, and of CBC’s Arts Report, Tim is a contributor to that network’s documentary series, Ideas. He was also arts presenter on VISION TV.
His radio features have aired on public networks in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, his television essays on CBC-TV, Hallmark and The Documentary Channel, and his photography in National Geographic online. His 2008 feature documentary, Griefwalker, was produced by The National Film Board of Canada.
Tim has guest-lectured, hosted or taught at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology (U. of Toronto), Acadia and Laurentian universities, and New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine. He currently produces for major media while living in Bear River, N.S.
Presentation date is February 24, 2 p.m. in the AGNS Community Room.
